QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist! It was a joke! I have friends who are black!"

- So protested Marilyn Davenport, a Southern California Teabagger, and member of the central committee of the Orange County Republican Party, when it was revealed that she'd circulated the image above in an email purporting to explain why President Obama has yet to produce a birth certificate... even though he has, again and again, and there's absolutely NO MYSTERY surrounding the location of his birth. You know, with all the incredibly vile and dangerous conspiracies unfolding behind the scenes of American and global government these days, why is it that American right-wingers feel the need to make up such incredibly stupid, bogus and totally irrelevant ones?

The thing is, I doubt right-wingers make up most of the bullshit they feed on. They pick it up from carefully targeted propaganda pieces, e-mail forwards, etc. Yawning Anus would say somebody else writes the script, and the masses play their appropriate roles. Sometimes we need to let people work off some cognitive energy to keep them from stockpiling weapons and bombing federal buildings, so we give them neatly-packaged hamster wheels, like the alleged missing birth certificate or immigration, or a blowjob in the Oral Orifice, or some other non-issue that we can make into an issue by promoting. People feed on affect induced by watching conflict; right wingers have a highly developed fear processing part of the brain. As long as we can create messages that include conflict, a sense that some sort of justice is achievable, and that the conflict could result in something frightening, then we have them. Liberals would side with one perspective, conservatives with the other, and there you have it: ideologically and diametrically opposed opinions in such heated debate they forget to do things like look where the government is giving away $700 billion dollars.

Wag the dog ,man. All you need's something that pushes somebody's buttons and pretty soon they'll rally their friends against your straw man and fight to the death. Manipulating the masses really isn't that difficult.
