JERKY'S TOP TEN FILMS OF 2014

Because people seem to like their lists short and sweet, and because I finally got around to seeing ten worthy films this year, I thought I'd revisit my previous year end entertainment review by posting it in abbreviated, list-friendly form. So here you are! My Top Ten Movies of 2014!
10. Black Mirror / White Christmas
9. Starry Eyes
8. Jodorowsky's Dune
7. Proxy
6. Only Lovers Left Alive
5. A Field in England
4. What We Do In The Shadows
3. Nightcrawler
2. Under the Skin
1. Grand Budapest Hotel
Honorable Mention: Blue Ruin, Captain America Winter Soldier, The Dance of Reality, ABCs of Death 2, Foxcatcher, Alan Partridge Alpha Papa and Inherent Vice, which I have yet to see, but which I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love.

So there you have it! Some mainstream, some experimental, some horrific, some just plain awesome. If you only saw these ten films from 2014, then you'd have to agree it wasn't as bad a year for the movies as a lot of people seem to think. And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch David Cronenberg's Map to the Stars followed by the bizarre French crime comedy P'tit Quinquin, which was recently recommended by my old alt.movies.kubrick compatriot Bilge Ebiri in a column for Vulture.com.

  1. Just to be clear, INHERENT VICE is the only film mentioned above that I have yet to see.
